No. It doesn't have to be programmed. I installed this about 30,000 miles ago and I haven't had any problems since.

Does it fit a 2010 f150 5.4l?

This part does not go in the engine. It is for the 6 speed auto trans. It sits on top of the valve body in the trans. My truck is a 2012 5.0 with the 6 speed auto 4x4. I believe the older trans pre 2012 use an external speed sensor that is accessible from the outside of the trans. Check youtube for more info.
